There are four commonly used methods of placing breast implants. The placement can vary underneath the pectoalis muscle, below the muscle, and even up against the pectoralis muscle. These methods achieve different results as well as encountering different complications.
When it comes to implant placement, in the States, it is the subpectoral technique that is most commonly used. It has the lowest rate of capsular contracture. The subglandular method has a higher capsular contracture rate, but is thought to produce results that are more natural in appearance. For those who have thing tissue in the placement area, you will begin to have signs of ripples or wrinkles.
A lot of doctors debate if the subfascial method is good. Supporters claim the method helps in sustaining the implant position. The fourth technique is called the submuscular implant. This option is usually only chosen when there is a full breast reconstruction procedure done.
Your surgeon may have his preferable method. Not everyone is the same and not everyone should be treated in the same way. You should discuss your options when it comes to the surgery and also talk about the complications of the chosen method. When it comes to the appearance, there is one technique that will be used for one person, but then another technique for another person.
