For those of us who are not science majors: if you place a foreign object inside your body your immune system will try to fight it or contain it. You should think about if you want to get implants. When the capsule tightens around the implant it’s called capsular contracture. The squeezing can be painful and can change the shape of the breast. The changed shape can affect the appearance of the breast too.
There are many levels when it comes to capsular contracture.. With the mildest case, the breast looks normal and still feels soft. This is classified as grade 1. Grade 2 still looks normal, but the breast is a little firm. At grade 3, the breast is firm and the appearance is considered abnormal. Then there is grade 4, which happens to be a very painful and the most severe level of capsular contracture. The breast looks abnormal and is hard.
Another operation might be needed to fix capsular contracture. The capsule will have to be removed and the implant replaced. But there are also cases where successful treatments have been achieved without any additional surgery.

Now, the FDA recommends that you get MRI’s done to see if there are any ruptures within three years of having the implants. You should also continue to get the MRI done every two years following your first check up.
Other countries consider MRIs useful only in cases of suspected ruptures and to confirm ultrasound or mammographic studies suggesting a rupture.

This indicates the need for removal of the implant. The risk and treatment of extracapsular leakage is controversial. It’s agreed that the gel is difficult to remove, but there’s disagreement about the health effects.
In case of silicone gel implants, after eleven years a woman is bound to have a rupture and that will also include leakage. You need to make sure that you consider the silent rupture risk before surgery. A rupture within your first six years is very rare.
